Mary McLorn Valle
Artist member since 2018
Toronto , Ontario
Flowers are symbols of renewal, endurance, beauty and energy unfolding. Mary McLorn Valle’s graphic oil paintings explore these themes using the imagery of tightly cropped blossoms, blooms and branches. Mostly painted from life in her studio these “still” subjects are a free-flowing meditation, the paintings themselves are charged with energy, intense colour and vitality. Colour possibilities and combinations are further explored using resin in abstract gridded colour-mixology paintings and in drippy brushstrokes pieces. Mary grew up in rural in Ontario with parents that were both visual artists and currently resides in Toronto. She holds a Masters in Fine Arts from The University of Regina. Her work is in many private collections across Canada.

When did you start making art, and why?
Both my parents were artists, they met at OCAD...we moved to an historic house built in 1837 in rural Ontario when I was young. They built a big studio in the barn and showed their paintings from our home. They inspired me to observe what was around me and be creative.
